Captain: Brian Scales

Captain Brian Matthew Scales is from George, South Africa, and has more than a decade of experience working in the yachting industry. He believes in being a hands-on captain — handling guest relations, charter management, interior service, and engineering/deck maintenance — in addition to providing five-star service at all times. His career has taken him through the Caribbean, Bahamas, Mediterranean, East Coast of the United States, and Scandinavia. Captain Brian loves the outdoors, and when not at sea, he enjoys surfing, bodyboarding, snowboarding, fishing, camping and golfing.

Chief stew- Maryanne Bertrand

Maryanne Bertrand is a South Jersey native who was looking for a change. Maryanne completed a bachelors of Science in Psychology at Rowan University in 2011, and was actively seeking a field where all her interests could be met. Yachting was an exciting opportunity for Maryanne. She took the leap of faith to explore her interest and passion. She ensures her guests have a wonderful time on board Beachfront. Maryanne has many qualifications in yachting such as cocktail making, fine wine and silver service. She loves traveling, being active, and most of all being near the ocean.

Second Stew- Claudia

Claudia is a South African native from the Province Limpopo. She grew up in a very small farm town with only one ‘robot’ (traffic light) that didn’t even work. Claudia started off her professional career working in online marketing. She then decided to switch things up and follow her passion of diving, becoming a dive master. This is when Claudia found out about yachting. In 2016 she swam into her yachting career and went where any boat would float. She thought, “Why not go live on the water and work under it?”
Claudia has worked on over 30 different boats as a freelance diver and stewardess for most of her career. She is an all-rounder but mostly works the interior. Claudia’s biggest asset is her friendly personality and “can do” attitude.

When Claudia is not under water you can find her barefoot and out and about with friends. She loves camping, yoga, boxing, diving, kayaking, food, and any adrenalized adventure.

Claudia’s motto in life is, “Kindness matters and doesn’t cost a thing, so smile and wave.” Claudia can’t wait to give guests onboard BEACHFRONT the time of their lives. Guests are guaranteed to form a smile on their face every time they look back and think of the trip.

Chef- Sarah Vaughan

Sarah Vaughan was born in Papua, New Guinea and grew up in a small country town north of Hobart, Tasmania. Her culinary style is heavily influenced by her hometown, renowned for its fresh produce and seafood, cool climate wines and whiskey. Her approach to cooking focuses on local, in-season ingredients that capture the flavors of a region. Before starting her career in yachting, she worked in some of Hobart’s finest restaurants and cafes, including the Islington Hotel. She was also chef for the Governor of Tasmania, creating meals for high profile guests, such as China’s President, Xi Jinping. Her love of the sea and experience providing high-level service brought her to the world of yachting. Sarah is a very active person who enjoys sports on both water and land, like hiking, wakeboarding, snorkeling, fishing and team sports. She also enjoys the arts, especially concerts and festivals. While Tasmania is close to her heart for its rugged landscapes, Sarah’s travels have taken her to Bariloche, Patagonia, Cape Town, Nazare and Mallorca. Now, she is very excited to explore the Bahamas as BEACHFRONT chef.

Mate- Luke Skipper
Education/Certificates: 100 ton Masters, AEC, Dive Master

Luke hails from Charlotte, North Carolina. He grew up 10 minutes from Downtown, but spent his summers in the outer banks. He started his yachting career in late 2015 after seeing how much one of his friends loved it and hasn’t looked back since. Luke is determined to show guests the best time possible with water toys, excursions, and making sure all of their needs are met every minute of the day. Luke has worked on 164’ OCEAN CLUB, 132’ SEA DREAMS, and now 108’ BEACHFRONT for just over a year.

When Luke is not busy working towards becoming Captain, you can find him golfing, diving, fishing, surfing, and cutting one loose on the dance floor. Throughout his years of yachting Luke has grown fond of meeting new people and learning new cultures. He continues to make the best of life on BEACHFRONT and can’t wait for guests to join him!

Rotational Captain- Jason Smith

Jason Smith is a South African native with more than a decade of experience in the yachting industry. Working a land-based job after graduating university, his love for water sports and fishing led him to his true calling, a Captain.

Jason comes packed with excellent Vessel Maintenance skills, including mechanical maintenance, exterior paint and varnish and general upkeep. His thorough knowledge of vessel systems and engineering, allow him to effectively troubleshoot any issues which may arise mid-charter.

He’s worked many busy yachts both private and charter where his duties included all aspects
related to the running of the vessel. These tasks included guest experience, safety, passage planning, navigational duties, crew management, maintenance, and financial reporting.

Jason recently took some time to peruse freelance work as he tackled his goals outside of the industry. Now, he is back, he is better, and on his way to attaining a full-time Captain position while completing his 500 ton license.

With his extensive knowledge and experience sailing the Caribbean, the Bahamas and especially the Exuma Island, Jason knows all of the “Secret Spots” to make your time onboard Beachfront unforgettable.
